Active Portage County, Inc. is
organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes. This
non-profit 501(c)(3) has been created to but not limited to the
following:
A. To
create a healthier Portage County by encouraging citizens to get
active and lead healthier lives through programs and planned
activities to motivate citizens to get into regular exercise, like
walking programs.
B. To
promote walking and other low impact exercise while educating the
public in how regular activity can reduce risks of heart disease,
diabetes, stress-related issues and other health problems stemming
from being sedentary.
C. To
provide opportunities for participants of all ages to train and
experience non-competitive physical activities.
Active Portage
County, Inc. is organized by a Board of Directors. The Stevens
Point Area Convention and Visitors Bureau executes all
administrative duties for Active Portage County, Inc.
The $25 Walk Wisconsin registration fee covers the cost of the
sports sack, t-shirt, refreshments and food stops along the route,
finish celebration, medallion and more.
A portion of the proceeds for Walk Wisconsin go to the Wellness Fund
at the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin. The remaining
funds are used to fuel new and on-going wellness orientated
activities and events to promote healthy people and lifestyles such
as Kids Walk Wisconsin, Real Wisconsin-Bike Tour and Moon Walk
Wisconsin.
